Ireland to ‘SHINE’
“Be Happy, Be Interested, Be Natural and Be Expert!” - those are the sentiments that Tourism Ireland wants frontline staff in the tourism and hospitality industries to exude, more than ever, as they welcome visitors from overseas.
It is part of a new programme called SHINE, designed to remind frontline tourism workers of four simple behaviours that they should display in their interactions with tourists.
We promise visitors to the Island of Ireland an experience that is unique, one that’s Spontaneous, Engaging and Fun. When they arrive, frontline tourism workers represent the Face of Ireland, and need to be the Proof behind that Promise. This can be done by performing our best – when we’re Happy, Interested, Natural and Expert… then we SH!NE.

Arthur’s Day
In our last newsletter we told you about the Guinness 250 Celebrations that were being planned to honour the man – Arthur Guinness, who first gave us the black stuff 250 years ago. Well the celebrations have taken place, Guinness hosted a global music celebration on Arthur's Day, 24th September 2009. It was a wonderful occasion with musical acts performing all over the city, in 28 pubs and venues. Over 60 artists performed on the evening and the stars included the legendary Tom Jones who played a live concert in one of the most historic buildings in the brewery, Hop Store 13.
The celebrations began in Dublin at 17:59, with a global toast to Arthur Guinness to mark 250 years since the signing of the 9,000 year lease on the St. James’s Gate brewery. It is hoped that this will become an annual event!

The Archdiocese of New York, the nation’s second-largest after the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, serves over 2.5 million Catholics.
